Frequently Asked Questons

Great information for you!

How are your rods made?

A rod is made from a predetermined blank that matches specific dimensions, then the rod is finished with selected guides, grip and reel seat.  The guides are then wrapped with silk thread, the grip and reel seat are mounted on the rod, and then the thread is sealed.

How long does it take to get a rod?

It can take 6 to 12 weeks to finish a rod.

What would I do if my rod breaks? Do you have any guarantees? Do you do repairs?

Your rod can be repaired at no charge if it should fail due to workmanship. Accidental breakage or abuse is not covered but can be repaired for a fee.

What ages are your camps for? Do you do parent-child classes where I could do this with my son or daughter?

Camps can be for any age child that can be attentive for 3 half day sessions. Camps can include parent and child.

How much do your rods cost?

My rods are priced at $1250.00.

Is there a “starter kit”?

Yes, many retailers sell starter kits that include rod, reel and line in a reasonably priced package.

I’ve seen people fly fishing on television and in movies. It looks difficult. Can anyone, at any age, learn to fly fish?

Applying the proper techniques, practically anyone can learn to cast properly which is the foundation of fly fishing.  Children can learn at a very early age if they are motivated to learn.  An ideal age is 8 to 10 years old

Do you sell reels too?

I can or I can suggest where to buy new or “vintage” reels.

Are your rods for novices or experience fly fishers?

My thoughts are to start out with a basic rod of your choice so that you will clearly know the difference in a fine bamboo rod. I have several rods to demonstrate what I am talking about.

What is included in the camp? How many kids do you have at a time?

Ideally I can teach 3 children at a time. Include would be drinks and snacks, knot tying supplies and website practice for use at home.

How do you ship a rod to me?

Rods are shipped in a package via the postal service and are insured.

What do I need to do to order a fly rod?

A 50% deposit is required with the balance due prior to shipping.

What makes bamboo better than a fiberglass rod?

The feel of a bamboo rod is what makes the difference. Since the invention of plastic for use in rod making the challenge has been to mimic the feel of bamboo.

What do I get with my rod?

Your rod will come with rod and extra tip section, rod bag and aluminum rod tube.

Do you have off the rack, ready to purchase rods or do I have to wait for you to make mine?

At this time each rod is built one at a time for a customer.

What equipment would you recommend for someone just starting with fly fishing?

A reasonable priced basic rod, polarized sunglasses, wading boots and appropriate pants and /or waders (depending on time of year and temperatures).

Can a child use the same rod as an adult would use?

To a degree, we don’t want to use a rod that a child cannot properly cast.

Are there options available for my rod like length, weight or color?

We can determine the rods dimensions which include length and weight, color can be changed by “flaming” the blank.
